This June, Johnson Security Bureau had the opportunity to travel to Monaco for the EY World Entrepreneur of the Year™ program. Surrounded by business leaders from across the globe, we joined conversations that challenged our thinking and expanded our perspective on what’s possible—for our company, our community, and the private security industry.
As a third-generation, family-owned, Black- and woman-led business, Johnson Security Bureau has always followed a path rooted in resilience and purpose. Being part of the EY World Entrepreneur Of The Year® network reinforces our commitment to building a business that adapts with intention and leads with integrity.
How Being an EY Entrepreneur Shapes Our Work
Joining the EY community places us in a global circle of founders and executives who are actively shaping the future of business. It’s a space where stories are shared, lessons are exchanged, and long-term thinking is prioritized. Through this lens, we’re able to look at our own work with greater clarity; sharpening our strategy, strengthening our systems, and identifying new ways to serve.
This experience added fuel to our vision and reminded us that growth doesn’t have to come at the expense of values or mission.
What Other Businesses Can Learn from EY Entrepreneurs
The entrepreneurs at EY WEOY came from a wide range of industries and countries, but many shared common approaches to leadership and innovation. These are a few key takeaways that we believe any business can apply:
1. Curiosity drives progress. The leaders making the biggest impact weren’t waiting for change—they were creating it. Asking bold questions, staying open to new models, and testing fresh ideas all played a role in their success.
2. Clear values lead to stronger decisions.Businesses that operate with clearly defined values tend to navigate challenges with more focus and confidence. Those values also help build trust—with clients, employees, and partners.
3. Entrepreneurial thinking belongs at every level. When teams are encouraged to problem-solve, take ownership, and think creatively, the entire organization benefits. Entrepreneurial energy isn’t limited to founders—it can show up in every department.
Looking Ahead with Fresh Perspective
Returning from Monaco, our team is carrying a renewed sense of clarity and motivation. We’re applying these insights to the way we lead, grow, and plan for the future. From investing in our workforce to embracing innovation in operations, every step forward is being taken with intention.
We encourage other small businesses—especially those led by women, people of color, and multigenerational families—to seek out spaces that challenge conventional thinking. Whether that means joining a formal program like EY or building your own network of thoughtful peers, surrounding yourself with ambitious and values-driven leaders creates the conditions for meaningful growth.
Johnson Security Bureau remains committed to evolving with purpose, and helping others do the same.
